Dreading holiday shopping this year? You’re not alone. Holiday shopping is one of the most stressful times of the year for a few different reasons. According to Market Watch, 50% of people are stressed about financial concerns during the holidays, while 46% are stressed about the actual shopping for gifts. However, Yolo Federal is here to help you take back the joy of the holidays! Check out our tips to make the most of your Black Friday shopping experience this year.

Plan Early

It’s no surprise that Black Friday shopping has morphed into a whole month of deals. While you may score better things on the day of Black Friday, you’ll want to start researching what you plan to purchase early on. Researching prices allows you to judge how good the deals really are. Study ads, both in print and online, the weekend before Thanksgiving. Map out a schedule of what retailers you want to hit in person versus the ones you may want to save for Cyber Monday. Be ready—only rookies head out on Black Friday unprepared.

Create a Budget

With all the sales during the week of Black Friday, it’s very easy to get heavy-handed with your Credit Card, and you may be in for a shock when your Credit Card statement comes in the following month. To avoid overspending, create a budget. Plan out ahead of time what you need to purchase during your Black Friday shopping and resist impulse buying, especially if you do not know how good a specific deal is. Review Store Policies

Most retailers offer price-match guarantees and have specific returns policies; however, you will want to make sure that those policies are still in place during your Black Friday shopping. Some stores may suspend their price-match guarantees during Black Friday weekend. Review the returns and exchange policies for Black Friday sales before you begin your shopping.

Protect Yourself

Nothing’s worse than having your card compromised during your holiday shopping. Protect yourself by enrolling your cards into Digital Wallet apps such as Apple Pay™ or Samsung Pay™. Your card information isn’t transferred during the transaction, which means your card is less likely to be compromised. Digital Wallets add several layers of protection, making them the most secure way to use your cards. For more information on our Digital Wallet program, click here.

Black Friday shopping doesn’t have to be stressful, but without utilizing these tips, you’ll likely find yourself in a tizzy with other holiday shoppers. Plan your shopping trip early and create a budget to maximize your savings. Be sure to review retailer policies for returns and exchanges before you buy. Protect yourself by enrolling your cards into your Digital Wallet before you start your holiday shopping.
